This very large piece depicts Tomoe Gozen, A legendary female samurai (onna-musha) from late 12th-century Japan, remembered for her bravery and skill in battle.
She served the warrior leader Minamoto no Yoshinaka during the Genpei War (1180–1185).
To celebrate the “Year of the Horse”, I also wanted to create a piece that honoured the female warrior spirit. This piece was also inspired by my wife. She celebrated her birthday in February also, Her love of horse riding and surrounded by Chrysanthemums in Pink for Elegance, Red for love and Yellow for Joy & Longevity.
Tomoe Gozen remains one of Japan’s most famous warrior women and a symbol of courage in Japanese history and folklore.
This delicate piece has been carefully and professionally scanned and Giclée printed.
